On behalf of the SF/Bay Area NLG Board I want to extend our best wishes for the coming new year. There’s a lot to think about as we enter 2020. It’s been a hard year. We have seen right wing nationalism and white supremacy take hold here and further attacks on basic human rights all around the world. But we have also seen increasing dissent and protest from Haiti to Chile to India to the Philippines and in our own backyard (just to name a few).
2019 saw the SF/Bay Area NLG engaged in multiple areas of defense and resistance. Our members fought increasing attacks on migrants both here in the Bay and at the border. We continued to defend the ever growing numbers of those unhoused as well as those locked up behind bars. Our human rights defenders worked on international cases around the world. And, as always, we have defended our movement partners as they protested in the streets here and elsewhere. In these times the NLG is needed and will be needed more than ever.
All this and more will be required of us as we enter 2020. We also will be more in contact with you during this critical year.
Unfortunately, we begin 2020 without an Executive Director. Jay Kim, who has served in this capacity for two years has left the position. We want to both thank her for her tremendous work and wish her the very best for the future.
Marcelena Menard, our membership coordinator is also moving on. They have done a wonderful job and we also wish them the best. We hope to hire their replacement in the next few weeks.
The search for a new Executive Director has begun in earnest and we need your help. Please find the job description for the ED here, a position we hope to fill this spring. Please distribute it far and wide. If you have any questions you can contact me at: email@example.com.
