Monday, July 22 | 12 – 1:30pm
Phillipine Consulate General in San Francisco
447 Sutter Street, Floor 6, San Francisco
What is the People’s State of the Nation Address (SONA)? Every year, the president of the Philippines delivers a State of the Nation Address that often ignores that true conditions of the Filipino people. In response, Filipinos and allies launch a People’s SONA, to protest the worsening conditions in the Philippines. In the past 3 years, President Duterte has continued his war on drugs, war on the poor, the TRAIN tax law burdening the poor, brutal Martial Law in Mindanao, misogynist attacks on women, subservience to US and China, and neglect of the concerns of overseas Filipinos. Efforts are on the way to change the Philippine Constitution to concentrate powers to Duterte and extend his rule.
We will join protests in the Philippines and around the world in condemning the anti-people, fascist and foreign orientated policies of this regime. We call on all our kababayans and allies to join us as we assert the need for a just and lasting peace in the Philippines. Tama na! Sobra na! People Power na!
