The Bay Area chapter of the National Lawyers Guild denounced President Donald Trump’s threats to send federal police to Oakland in a press conference on Tuesday, calling them “fascist moves” while a top federal official defended the “authorized missions.”
The NLG news conference came one day after Trump suggested that he would send federal law enforcement to Oakland and other Democratic cities. Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf derided Trump’s statement as a “racist campaign tactic,” and it also drew sharp criticism from other Bay Area politicians and Gov. Gavin Newsom, who said California “would reject” any such intervention. Read Full Article
